I have an unending amount of patience and will listen to most anyone's opinion. I am not judgemental or critical.
I was diagnosed less than three months after my marriage at the age of 22. My husband and I were stunned by my hospitalization. I had dropped some weight and had unquenchable thirst. My doctor told me I "might" be diabetic and gave me some pills and sent me to a dietician.
After seeing the dietician, I gained 15 lbs in one month. Frustrated, I went to another doctor who immediately admitted me for type 1.
Angry, sick, and confused I drove to Nashville, TN and saw an endocrinologists, dietician, and diabetic educator. There I found out that the previous dietician had me on a 42-year-old diabetic diet!!! ARRRGGG
I don't have another relative on either side of my family with type 1. But we do have a lot of Auto-Immune diseases. (Thyroid, Arthritis) But I am the Diabetes lone ranger!
I am the mother of 2 intelligent, beautiful healthy girls. My oldest was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when she was 9. (Stupid Auto-Immune disease!)I am blessed to have a supportive family, loud and opinionated, but supportive none the less.
