I have been fighting the notion that I could be diabetic for quite some time.. years in fact. This year I finally gave up and accepted that I couldn't fool myself any longer. I went and got the diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. I wish I could say that I was doing everything right. I'm not.. I need to, but there are days where I just honestly don't know if its worth doing.
Steven I think that is geat that you are going this! Losing weight is not an easy thing! Just watch eating those Atkins meals, once you go off those you may have a slight increase in your weight. There is also a product out there that is called Shakeology. It is awesome! I had tried it and found my blood sugar to be under 100 all day. When I exercse, my BG in the mornings have been in the 80s. If you are interested let me know and I can get you more information on it. Keep up the good...

Hi Guys, I can really relate to this one. I manage my Diabetes very well, but I have no control over my food intake. It sometimes drives me crazy. Patrick did you know there was OA also? Overeaters Anonymous and they have a 12 step program. I tried it once in my area and I thought the group was strange, but maybe in other areas the people will be different. I do weight watchers and TOPS (taking off the pounds sensibly) both support groups in my area that have been helpful, but...

Hi Steve, The New York Times, Tuesday, August 14, 2012, on page D1 has an article entitled, "Binge Eating Among Men Steps Out of the Shadows". The ability does exist to check the New York Times on the internet. Or, go to the local library and ask them to pull the article and print it for you. Hope this helps and as always have a great day. Steven. You are WORTHY, and you are valuable to our world!! I understand how life can be hard...especially when the pain of your loss is still there. But, your son would want you to take care of yourself, and live life the way he did. He risked his life so you and I could have a better one. He did what he loved, and his life had meaning! Do not allow his death to be for not. It can be hard to deal with this disease. It is day in, day out. Folks with cancer...they know they will either die,...

It can be hard to deal with this disease. It is day in, day out. Folks with cancer...they know they will either die, or get cured...but, folks with diabetes...they have to live with it with no end in site.
I urge you to pick up a book called Diabetes Burnout. What to Do When You Can't Take It Anymore. It is a wonderful book that helps you to get back on track, and discover how to deal with a lot of the things we deal with day in and day out.
I also would encourage you to do what I do...take a break at least once a month. I have a once a month PLANNED blow meal. This day is used for whatever I want. Go for my favorite foods, have dinner with my husband, have a holiday meal. Whatever. I do not count my carbs, and I just eat. (If you are on insulin, you probably will have to count. If not, don't worry.)
In addition, I recommend that you read a book called Diabetes On Your OWN Terms by Janis Roszler. This book will give you step by step know hows to get yourself in the health you want, without making you feel like a failure.
And, lastly...I would recommend that you seek out someone professional to work with...Diabetes alone can make one depressed, but your recent loss has you gripped with even more on your mind. It is NOT a failure to see someone when you need help. Again, you are a person that is needed in this world. Please take care of yourself.
