I know it is a private forum for men so I do apologize, but I just couldn't resist peeking into it. Yes metformin and gluophage is the same thing. alpha lipoic acid does not ever replace a med like metformin. The only use I know of that diabetics use it for is when they have neuropathy. It helps with the pain and it is over the counter and not by prescription. It really helps for that issue. I apologize again. Sally

I was wanting to know if metformin and glucophage are the same thing. My endo doctor just started me on metformin this week to bring down my blood glucose levels which is still high. My recent A1C test was 7.1 which she said is pretty good, considering I told her a year ago when my primary doctor did it,it was something like 13. I also mentioned alpha lipoic acid vs the metformin and said to me,stay away from it and said if i can weather the side effects of the metformin I should be ok,and as of today I've had only 1 500mg tablet and have to take 2 a day. I've taken Bayetta in the past and had bad side effects from it and told her so.
