    My Diabetes Story

i had a hip replacement and was found to have diabetes during the pre op testing. after the operation i was served awful "diabetic food" my husband said he wouldn't eat it. i was scared into losing weight and exercising. i brought my aic from 6.7 to 5.6. that was short lived as i went back and gained the weight back. sooo-- now i am back to struggling with diet. i may have to go on metformin which i know will help me but i feel like a failure.

i guess you are now on insulin. last i heard things were out of control. i did "good" on thanksgiving. too busy to eat much. but i enjoyed anyway. i went to have my blood work done and they told me that medicare would only pay for once a year testing. i said that my doc wanted me tested because my a1c was up to 6.7 from 5.8 6 months ago. she said she had no order for bloodwork. so i see doc today 12/15. before my last blood work i had taken a steroid for 10 days but don't know if that caused...

Hi Jean, Yes, for now I ended up needing 45 units of Lantus once a day and my Novolog needs depend on how active I am. Most days I don't need any Novolog at all but did start with 15 units 3 times a day. Wow only 1 blood work per year that does not sound right at all. I hope your doctor helps you to get tested more often. From what I understand steroids do all kinds of things to the body. My wife was just taking a steroid for a problem she was having and couldnt sleep and was very tense. Yes, I...

I highly recommend getting a nutrition scale. They sell them at amazon or if you want to check them out in person, places like Bed, Bath & Beyond. I've been using one since I started using an insulin pump, for over 7 years, and can't imagine not using one now. When I've compared using measuring cups with weighing, measuring cups are always inaccurate, no matter what kind it is, which has to do with the inherent inexactness of using measuring cups, not the measuring cup itself. As a bonus, you...

      Hi Nykaylla,
That's not how you figure out your blood glucose level. We we post our blood sugars, we have a meter and test strips to determine that. The average or A1C is a test done at the Doctor's office that determines your blood glucose over a 3 month period. I will have to find a chart tomorrow that shows the measurements for you. But I believe if I average 120-150, I'll get an A1C around 7. Don't quote, me it's late and I just noticed that this hadn't been answered. I will try and...
