...what? What do you need to take time for?
About an hour ago I talked with a doctor about an article I am working on for dLife.com. It was on what could be a dull topic if all I did was an Internet search and create something from there. Well, not really dull, as we (thank God for intern help) delved deeper into the issue, but as I asked some questions and he cheerfully answered, it reminded me not only how important it is to have this injection of someone's professional perspective to really bring ANY topic to life, but also of how much I need to interview people more often. We are always so busy with so many different projects, this gives me the chance to focus just on the wonderful act of writing as well as expands my knowledge base because as you interview someone, you learn about things you may never have thought to question if all you did was read up on the subject. This doctor's professional experience as well as his passion for the topic broadened the scope of what I was doing and I think it's going to be an interesting read for our audience.
Even though, when it comes to work, I really do have a full plate - and bowl, and bread plate, and my cup runneth over - I have got to find a way to do that more often. It's good for me AND the site. It's a form of exercise that, if I can manage to do it regularly enough, I am sure I can squeeze onto that plate as if it had always been there and I'll make a routine of it just like I do everything else.
And speaking of exercise (jumping to my personal life now), some time ago - Sept 2010, to be exact - I rededicated myself to putting some form of exercise back into my routine life. Now I am not being vigorous, I admit. I do my 30 minutes a day - usually happily, not grudingly - and I just about never bother on the weekends because I simply chill then. It was just important to me that it gets back in my life and have it stay there, even if it's a little at a time and I work my way to, say, no more than an hour a day, more than likely no more than 5 days a week. I can't make it a project because projects tend to be short lived. It has to be worked in to stay, which means it has to flow with my life, not hinder it in any way.
I get on my treadmill (got to get the tread replaced soon) and I know that treadmill or some treadmill will be a permanent part of things since I have had a treadmill in my home (and used it) since long before my 11-year-old son was born. I do WiiFit because it's just fun. If you've never really done those activities, I assure you can get your workout on. And now it's Zumba for the Wii. I didn't think it would grab me, but it's become my personal challenge to get those darn dance steps down! A good workout? Heck yeah, man! I've been doing that for maybe a bit over two weeks now and I love it.
It's all part of taking the time to do...whatever you really want to do. It just improves the quality of life.
