Check out your local health department to see where you can go. Check your local pharmacys to see what the lowest price of test strips are and switch to them. Goodluck.
There are all kinds of programs for you if you can not afford to buy food. I find that there are soup kitchens that give out great food for a very low price. You can usually find a food purchasing group through the library where I buy a box of food for a certain price. A large box for 20 dollars. You can also talk to your doctor and they can connect you with groups that deal with diabetes. They can then send you to someone who can help you shop for great food. You said you have a hard time deciding which breads and pastas to avoid. Well, if you can't figure it out stop all of them. My dietitian said that if you are in doubt, and if it is white or made from white stuff (flour etc) then don't eat it. - It seems that all the whites and yellows are bad for us. Except for cauliflower. if you notice, potatoes, sugar, bread, flours corn all raise your blood sugar - so don't eat them! It might take a week or two to get used to it, but you will and then...

I have a 15 carb per meal limit and it isn't REALLY that difficult to accomplish. Just do it, your life depends on it! Remember, at this stage YOU ARE IN CONTROL of your health..... its up to you.

The big thing to watch for is low blood sugars. I take 2mg with each meal, plus Levimere at bedtime. But I also **** my carbs with my meals. Good luck .
